Thinking about what to read or looking for a gift for a loved one? Do you like to immerse yourself in the pages of a book and then discuss the plot with enthusiasm? We have something special for you.
Here are the top 5 patriotic books from the veteran publishing house “marcobook“. These are the most popular books that Ukrainians have actively ordered and are still ordering. The publishing house was founded by veteran Mark Melnyk. We would like to introduce you to the veteran and a selection of his books.
Mark Melnyk is a participant in the Revolution of Dignity, an Azov volunteer, founder of the first frontline magazine, and vice president of the Kholodnyi Yar Historical Club. In 2016, the veteran returned to civilian life and founded markobook, one of the first veteran-run publishing houses in Ukraine. Later, he received a grant from the Ukrainian Veterans Foundation and is actively developing his own business.
The veteran himself notes that his books have completely different topics, but they are united by a victorious Ukrainian outlook. Melnyk’s books are read by soldiers in the trenches and even by General Valerii Zaluzhnyi.
“These books are aimed at supporting the morale and motivation of the military, first of all. We send them to various units free of charge. Each book sold on the publishing house’s website guarantees that another one will be sent to a military unit where there are people who want to be inspired by the heroic pages of Ukrainian episodes of war with the enemy,” says veteran and publisher Mark Melnyk.

So, choose, give, read and help Ukrainian defenders. Below is a selection of TOP 5 patriotic books from a veteran publishing house with personal recommendations from veteran Mark Melnyk.
The 30 Wars wiZ the Cursed Neighbour
By Yevhen Buket
This book tells in an interesting way about the thousand-year history of the struggle of the Ukrainian people against the Russian invaders. It is illustrated and has QR codes that show video materials in a popular scientific form about these historical events. “The 30 Wars” is dedicated to the key personalities of the armed conflicts. Some of them are little known to the general public. The book has a significant number of discoveries for ordinary Ukrainians about our victory and military glory, rich history and victorious stories.
“The Islamic State: the Largest Battle of our Time”
By Oleksandr Korenkov
What about the desk book of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valerii Zaluzhnyi? The publication was noticed on his desk. Since then, it has been a steady bestseller of the veteran publishing house.
“The Islamic State” talks about the Battle of Mosul, the largest military operation of our time, which has shaped the concept of warfare in the world for years, and possibly decades to come. For some unknown reason, this topic was not properly covered in the information environment of Ukraine and the world.
The book allows us to draw parallels between religious groups fighting in Iraq and linguistic groups in Ukraine, between which conflicts are artificially fomented by an external enemy.
With the support of the UVF, we have made a new edition of this book, which also regularly goes to the military and motivates them, so that every Ukrainian soldier feels part of the great liberation struggle, part of the great Ukrainian nation.

Ukrainian Nationalism. The Foundations of an Ideology
Edited by Oleh Odnorozhenko
This is a publication that I personally have wanted to publish for a very long time. The book contains abridged versions of the works of the founders of Ukrainian independence, ideologists of Ukrainian nationalism – Mykola Mikhnovsky, Dmytro Dontsov, Mykola Sciborsky, Yuriy Lypa, Yaroslav Orshan, Mykhailo Kolodzinsky, Oleh Olzhych, Dmytro Myron-Orlyk, Yaroslav Stetsko, and Roman Koval. Roman Koval is the only living author among them.
The book is illustrated with photographs of these people. Some of them are unique and have never been published before. The photos were restored by me using various image generators based on artificial intelligence.
This publication allows us to read the ideological concepts that created the basis for the existence of the Ukrainian state as an independent and self-sufficient one. The book allows us to look into the eyes of the people who created these foundations.
Infodemic
By Oleksandr Solonko
“Infodemic” is about disinformation and its impact on the mass consciousness of society. It was written by a soldier who defended Bakhmut.
The book helps to teach us how to resist disinformation, which we are exposed to unconsciously or consciously every day. After all, russia has a firm grip on the Ukrainian information space, and it has influence on the European news and cultural space.
Therefore, this publication is a must-have in order to be aware and counteract information attacks.
The Noble Hearts
By Roman Koval
This book is about Cossack volunteers who died fighting for the Ukrainian state in 2022–2023: Oleh “Chornyi” Sobchenko, Yurii “Ruf” Dadak, Yulian “Beaver” Matviichuk, and Denys “Buk” Antipov. All of them participated in the commemorations of the heroes of Kholodnyi Yar in previous years.
Even after their deaths, they continue to inspire Ukrainians to win and give us a boost of energy to fight.
Monuments have been erected in Kholodny Yar in their honor and in honor of other fallen soldiers. “Now we can talk to our warrior ancestors on an equal footing,” these guys can say. Eternal glory and gratitude to them!
