Today at the forum “Respect. Experience. Perspective” James E. Baker shared his unique and important experience with us.
At the forum, James E. Baker shared his experience with us. He is a former officer of the US Marine Corps, a former Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, and currently he is the Director of the Syracuse University Institute for Security Policy and Law and a professor at the Syracuse University College of Law and the Syracuse University – Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.
James E. Baker said: “We, the United States, support Ukraine in a way that no one else in the world does. And we are working on what we call the US-Ukraine Veterans Bridge. This is a process that will help Ukrainian veterans connect with their fellow Americans. Together, we can learn from each other. We want to share both good lessons and those that shouldn’t be repeated.
Tragedy means opportunity. And we are now experiencing a moment that cannot be lost.We need to build a system for veterans that is not based on “pensions” but on the system of people who help their country develop by acquiring new opportunities.
The issue of veterans is a security sector issue. The American experience suggests that after the Second World War, there were a lot of different veterans. These are the people who want to live differently and change their country. In the US, it was the veterans of the Second World War who transformed the economy after the war.
Unfortunately, you will be facing the danger of aggression, but veterans will always be ready to join the army. Therefore, people who ensure the security of their state must be provided. Remember that caring for veterans is a concern not only of the state but also of the entire society…”
