The winners of Varto+NGO have opened a veterans’ headquarters called Their Own to Their Own in Zhovkva, Lviv Oblast. This is the fifth space for veterans launched by the NGO “Association of Volunteers.”
“Veterans and their families can gather here to socialize, get legal advice or psychological support. To implement this initiative, the community received furniture and equipment purchased with funds we received from the Ukrainian Veterans Foundation,” says Olena Zhyvko, a veteran and head of the NGO “Association of Volunteers.”
Zhovkva City Council and other partners joined the initiative.
It is planned that the space will also be used to organize meetings for children who lost their parents in the war. Families of military personnel and demobilized soldiers are also invited.
The idea to create veterans’ spaces in small communities of the region is due to the fact that work with veterans is usually better organized in large cities. Instead, in small communities, soldiers returning from war often do not have the opportunity to receive the necessary support and assistance.
According to Olena Zhyvko, it is important to show veterans returning home, regardless of whether they live in a big city or a village, that there are people nearby who are ready to help them cope with the consequences of war and return to civilian life.

During the working visit to Kharkiv region, the team of the Ukrainian Veterans Foundation of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine visited the winners of the Varto competitive programs from this region.
On the trip Vita Kostyk, Deputy Executive Director of the UVF, Olena Prikhno, an employee of the UVF, and William Attig, an American veteran, Executive Director of the Union Veterans Council, and co-founder of the US-Ukraine Veterans Bridge took part.
During the visit, our team met with veteran Serhii Lukinov, who is developing the “WILD SPIRIT” training center with the help of the funds received from the UVF.
Our colleagues learned how the training and selection of dogs go on, how animals hone their skills in searching for mines and explosive objects, how criminals are apprehended, how dogs are trained to be companion dogs for visually impaired people, etc.
During the conversation, William Attig was interested in how it would be possible to develop partnership relations with the veteran and his training center: to attract foreign investors and to employ veterans who would also like to work with dogs.
The second trip was to Oleksandr Shylin’s enterprise. With the funds received from the UVF, he expanded his business in the direction of household and bulky waste management in Kharkiv.
In particular, the man bought two cars.
The enterprise is currently starting to serve the communities of the Kharkiv region. The plans include the construction of a sorting line.
William Attig called on Oleksandr Shylin to expand the veteran business, and he sees potential for development specifically in his field.
The UVF team also visited Oleksandr Chumak from the NGO “Association of Private Employers”. The team of the NGO won the competition program of the UVF with the project “Center for supporting business initiatives of veterans “New Count”.
The NGO representatives told how exactly they work with communities of Kharkiv region and informed them about, in particular, veteran opportunities in the region. The meeting also discussed the issue of retraining veterans (in particular, veterans with disabilities).
And William Attig, on the other hand, shared the experience of American veterans working in this field.
He also emphasized that it is necessary to strengthen NGOs that work with veterans. After all, such a network of help, in his opinion, can be valuable for each specific veteran.
With the assistance of the ATO Veterans Union, the UVF team, together with an American guest, also visited the border with the aggressor state — Belgorod region of the russian federation. Local veterans recounted the course of the battles and the expulsion of the occupiers from the region.
On the way, our colleagues had the opportunity to see a lot of destroyed infrastructure, homes of civilians during the battles for the region.
They also visited the Kharkiv military cemetery, where servicemen who died during the nine-year war were buried.
The team honored the memory of all fallen Defenders of Ukraine.
The visit seemed to be touching for William Attig: he lives near Arlington Cemetery in the USA, where his friends found peace.
According to the results of the visit, the Deputy Executive Director of the UVF Vita Kostyk laconically summarized:
“Despite the constant shelling, the city is alive. And the veteran business should develop without any obstacles.”
Демінери, розробники жіночої військової форми, ті, хто створюють унікальні вишиванки та готую часникову пасту — що їх обʼєднує?
Усі вони — ветерани-підприємці.
І сьогодні у рамках VI Міжнародного ветеранського форуму «Україна. Захисники. Майбутнє» на закритій локації вони мали змогу показати свої проєкти та продукцію і розповісти про себе.
Ці ветерани – це представники тих майже 400 ветеранських бізнесів, що отримали фінансову підтримку за час діяльності Українського ветеранського фонду Мінветеранів.
“Повернувшись до цивільного життя, я прагнув, щоб ця земля була безпечною для мене, моїх дітей та внуків”, — говорить один із учасників, ветеран Віталій Кучеренко, займається гуманітарним розмінуванням територій. Він навчає демінерів та є засновником ТОВ “ГК ГРУП”.
А ветеран Тарас Якобчук, який створює професійні кухні для рестораторів: від дизайну до закупівлі інвентарю і разом із дружиною Валентиною працює під брендом “TopRest”, каже про свій бізнес: “У нас сімейна компанія. До нас приходять як в сім’ю, як до друзів”.
Своєю чергою, присутня на заході, ветеранка Катерина Приймак спільно з посестрами одягає у форму українських військовослужбовиць. Під брендом by VTRNK вони створюють однострої, адаптовані під потреби жінок. Катерина говорить: “У нас не просто цех, а цех, який активно допомагає фронту”.
Ще один унікальний ветеранський бізнес розвиває Антон Бростовський. Він спроєктував дитячий розважальний інтерактивно-пізнавальний парк “Земля драконів”. А його родина допомагає у втіленні ідеї в життя. Сам Антон коментує: “Усе — для дітей. Зокрема, аби військові могли привести своїх синів і доньок до унікального парку”.
Ветеран Марко Мельник знайомив відвідувачів зі своїм видавництвом та зокрема 5 книгами, які він видав за підтримки УВФ. Марко є засновником одного із перших в Україні ветеранських видавництв — markobook. Сам він каже, що забезпечує військових зокрема, інтелектуальним підґрунтям.
“Все, що об’єднує наші книжки — це переможний український світогляд”, — коментує ветеран.
Ветеран Тарас Лелюх розвиває високотехнологічне підприємництво у агросфері. Він заснував агробізнес ТОВ “Деметра Агро-Груп”. У своїй роботі покладається на побратимів. Каже: і бою, ми продовжуємо це робити й у бізнесі. Надійні побратими стали надійними партнерами”.“Довіряючи один одному на пол
Також сьогодні ро свої бізнеси розповідали:
Богдана Сидоренко, ветеранка. Разом із сестрою Ренатою заснувала підприємство з пошиття одягу для ЗСУ, уніформи для підприємств.
Володимир Скосогоренко, ветеран. Переробляє часник у пасту. Розвиває бренд “Часничок”.
Сергій Пирогов, ветеран. Працює з братом Віталієм під брендом “Active Season”. Виготовляє товари, які покращують побут військових на лінії фронту.
Володимир Довган, ветеран. Разом з дружиною Оксаною заснував авторську гончарню “DOVGAN-ART”.
Олександр Ткачук, ветеран. Заснував бренд “Вишиваночка”, шиє одяг в етностилі, фліски та військову форму.
Андрій Сарвіра, ветеран. Відкрив ресторан і пивоварню “First Wave”.
Дмитро Мартиненко, ветеран. Заснував мережу патріотичних кав’ярень “Тихе місце”.
Сьогодні на Форумі ветерани заявили про себе та про власну справу. Бізнес для них – це один зі способів повернутись після війни. Те, що підтримує ветерана, його родину. Український ветеранський фонд Мінветеранів готовий в цьому допомагати.
